Celebrating Our Neurodivergent Kids

Celebrating Neurodiversity – Why We Need Different Kinds of Minds and Brains

Neurodiversity recognises that there is no single “right” way for a human brain to think, learn, communicate or experience the world.

In this session, we’ll explore what neurodiversity means, where the concept came from and some of the neurotypes it includes, such as autism, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and Tourette’s.

We’ll look at four common areas of difference and support need, and consider what it means to navigate environments that have largely been designed around neurotypical expectations. We’ll also explore why adjustments and inclusive design are not simply “nice to have”, but essential in helping people thrive.

Most importantly, we’ll look beyond accommodation to the value of different kinds of minds. Neurodivergent people can bring distinctive ways of thinking, solving problems, spotting patterns, creating ideas and seeing the world differently.

The session will explore why neurodiversity benefits workplaces, communities and wider society, and why we should move from simply accepting difference to actively valuing and celebrating it.

The session will conclude with final reflections and an open Q&A.
