The world boys are growing up in is changing faster than ever before — and not always in ways that are easy for them (or their parents) to navigate. The expectations they face are shifting. Pressures from peers, schools and social media are intensifying. Keeping honest lines of communication open with them is more important than ever – but can feel very challenging for the adults around them.

This session is not just about the experiences and pressures boys are facing. It is about how we respond in ways that connect with their real lives, beyond the hype and moral panic.

Drawing on the latest research and best practice worldwide, this interactive workshop explores how boys’ development and wellbeing is shaped by the environments around them — including social norms, family dynamics and everyday expectations. It highlights how rigid ideas about masculinity can limit boys’ emotional expression, relationships and sense of self. And it provides insights into how small, practical changes in how parents and carers respond to them can make a big difference.

Through discussion of real-life scenarios and participants’ experiences, participants explore how to:

* Help boys navigate peer influence and digital environments more critically

* Support boys to express emotions openly and in healthy ways

* Challenge limiting stereotypes and expand what boys feel able to be and do

* Model respect, equality and healthy relationships in everyday life

* Encourage positive male role models and diverse ways of being a boy and becoming a man

Participants will leave with:
