June 15: Celebrating Screen-Free Childhood
From Childhood Wonder to Teenage Discovery
Over the past two weeks, we've been exploring simple, creative and enjoyable activities that encourage younger children to step away from screens and connect with the world around them.
From treasure hunts and cloud watching to baking, crafting, building, exploring local parks and playing games with family. We've discovered that some of the best adventures often happen without a screen in sight.
Now, before we move on to the next part of our Screen-Free Childhood Month series, we'd like to set one final challenge.
Pick Your Favourite!
Think back to all the activities we've shared over the past two weeks.
Which one brought the biggest smiles?
Which sparked the most imagination?
Which activity would you love to do all over again?
Perhaps it was building an amazing creation from LEGO and recycled materials. Maybe it was lying on the grass and spotting shapes in the clouds. It could have been a family board game that ended in laughter, a treasure hunt full of clues and surprises, or a craft project that still has pride of place on the fridge.
Whatever your favourite was, now is the perfect time to revisit it.
Sometimes the best activities are the ones we come back to again and again. Each time we do them, we bring new ideas, new creativity and new memories.
Celebrating the Little Moments
This isn't about avoiding technology completely, it's about creating balance and making space for the moments that help children connect, explore, learn and simply enjoy being together.
Many of the activities we've shared have required very little planning, equipment or expense. What they have created however are opportunities for conversation, curiosity, laughter and connection.
Growing Up, New Adventures
As children grow, their interests and experiences naturally change.
The activities that capture the imagination of a five-year-old may look very different from those that engage a teenager. Older children often seek greater independence, new challenges and different ways to connect with friends, family and communities.
That's why the next part of our series will focus on activities for older children and teenagers.
We'll be sharing ideas that encourage creativity, confidence, wellbeing, connection and exploration, while recognising the important role technology plays in many young people's lives. The aim isn't to remove screens altogether, but to help young people discover meaningful ways to balance their online and offline worlds.
The Journey Continues
Although we're turning the page to a new chapter, the heart of this month remains the same.
It's about making time for creativity.
It's about nurturing curiosity.
It's about building connections.
And it's about finding joy in the simple things.
So before we move on, choose your favourite activity from the past two weeks and enjoy it one more time. Then join us as we begin exploring screen-free ideas designed for older children and teenagers.
